Dearborn Heights
Montessori Center, a non-profit educational community founded in 1972,
provides a non-graded, individualized learning environment for approximately 400
children from preschool through eighth grade.
In the Montessori
classroom, the children are motivated by their own interest and excitement.
In this atmosphere they are encouraged to develop a positive self-image and
to experience the satisfaction of helping others, while experiencing the joy
of learning.
Academic
standards are high, and sequential learning materials lead the child to
mastery. The curriculum is based upon the Montessori method, which, we
believe, enables each child to reach his or her potential.
Students in
Montessori schools are actively involved in their own learning--not just
repeating information dictated by a teacher, but experiencing, discovering,
researching, and finally abstracting information from a variety of resources.
In short, Montessori children learn how to learn.
Curriculum
support teachers in art, music, physical education, French, Spanish, and
technology supplement the regular classroom programs. Our seven-acre site and
our school building offer spacious classrooms, a gymnasium and stage, and
well-developed outdoor play areas.
Dearborn Heights
Montessori Center is affiliated with the American Montessori Society,
Michigan Montessori Society, and the Association of Independent Michigan
Schools (AIMS). We are approved by the Michigan Department of Education; and
accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children.
Our preschool and latchkey programs are licensed by the Michigan Division of
Child Care Licensing.
